Peter Bengtsen is an investigative reporter and historian of ideas.
Peter's investigations have been covered by tv and newspapers throughout Europe. His work is published in 15 languages and 20 countries by media such as The Guardian, Le Monde diplomatique, Der Spiegel, The Diplomat, and more.
His investigations contribute to financial compensations for thousands of workers, corporate sanctions, human rights litigation, exposés of flawed audits, improved supply chain due diligence and public procurement.
A winner of several investigative grants and contracts, he has also been shortlisted for media awards in the UK and Denmark. He contributed to the award-winning investigation Blood Bonds by Berlingske newspaper and appeared in the award-winning documentary The Ugle Side of Beauty by CNA.
His reflective-perspective pieces appear in OpenDemocracy, Global Policy Journal, Le Monde diplomatique blogs and book contributions. Consumer magazines in Italy, Spain, Portugal, UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Denmark publish his investigations.
The US Department of Labor, the US Department of Homeland Security, the UN’s labor agency ILO, the Global Slavery Index and other authorities on forced labour use his work. So do human rights lawyers, ESG investors, auditors and academics.
In Denmark while working for the research centre Danwatch in 2010-13, he led investigations published in newspapers such as Berlingske, Jyllandsposten, Politiken and Børsen and broadcasted by national radio and television such as DR and TV2.
Peter increasingly looks into supply chain due diligence in the global economy, besides pursuing his decade-long dedication to corporate ethics, human rights and labour issues.
He continuously leads on-the-ground investigations in Asia. Field experience over 15 years includes industrial zones, mines or plantations in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, and Middle-Eastern, African and South American countries.
His work follows recognized ethical principles of journalism, including the International Federation of Journalists' Declaration of Principles on the Conduct of Journalists.
He holds a master degree in the history of ideas and political theory from Aarhus University. He is external examiner at its Department of Philosophy and History of Ideas and affiliate at its Centre for studies of Litteratures and Cultures of Slavery.
Previous positions include director of Danwatch, senior adviser at the VELUX Foundations, head of section at the Danish Ministry of Education.
